Legend of a Warrior – now available for FREE on NFB.CA

The National Film Board of Canada has released Legend of a Warrior for viewing free of charge on nfb.ca.

Featuring archival footage and action-packed comic book-style animation, the feature documentary follows Corey’s efforts to reconnect with his father, martial arts legend Frank Lee.

Frank Lee doesn’t just practise martial arts: for his many students and fans, Frank Lee is martial arts—a high-kicking dynamo whose style of full contact fighting has hurtled him up into the very stratosphere of the profession. Frank is happy to play the role he’s cultivated, but there is at least one person who would like to look beneath the superhero mask: his son, Corey.

Frank’s status as a legendary street fighter and world-renowned coach have kept him at an emotional (and physical) distance from Corey; but now the younger Lee, in his forties and a father himself, would like to reconnect with his mighty dad. To do this, Corey must enter Frank’s world, a world where fighting rules.

Legend of a Warrior had it’s world premiere at Hot Docs 2012 and played on screens across Canada. The film won the awards for Best Documentary over 30 minutes and Best Original Score (non-fiction over 30 minutes) at the 2013 Alberta Film and Television awards. The documentary is produced by Bonnie Thompson for the NFB, Susan Bristow for Corkscrew Media and Corey Lee for enriquePoe Moving Pictures.
