WARRIOR LEGEND – in production

The feature documentary, Warrior Legend, is now in production.  The film examines my challenging relationship with my father, renowned martial arts expert, coach and promoter, Frank Lee, as I endeavor to better understand the man, the choices heʼs made, and connect us after two decades of limited contact.  I delve into my father’s life long work in the martial arts through a hybrid of animation, archival footage and stills, but mainly through the capture of my own return to the martial arts and training with my father nearly 25 years after stepping away.  The goal: that I might seek to reveal the secret identity behind his larger than life persona, to inform him as to the man I have become and to build a bridge for myself and my sons to carry on, even some small part, of his culture and legacy after he is gone.

Warrior Legend is produced by Corkscrew Films, in conjunction with the National Film Board and enriquePoe Moving Pictures.  The project continues principal photography  until June and is scheduled for release in 2012.

Stay Tuned.

enriquePoe Moving Pictures is pleased to report that filmmaker Corey Lee is again instructing  workshops through the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers this fall/winter.

Writing the Short Film – Concept to Script

This workshop focuses on the compressed and deliberate genre of the short fiction film and is designed for the aspiring writer/director who wants to develop and shoot their own stories.  Over the course of one month, workshop participants will be introduced to the basics of screenwriting: format, story, structure, plot, character and theme.

The class will develop their ideas, writing styles and personal process in a safe and positive environment.  They will also work together to analyze and critique a variety of short films, as well as each other’s work.  Initial concepts will be evolved from synopsis to outline to treat- ment and finally into a short screenplay, which will be read by actors for the final class.  Participants will engage in writing and pitching exercises and are advised to have at least two story ideas to possibly develop as short films.  Workshop participants should bring a pen and notebook and/or laptop and also be advised that writing assignments will be given in between classes in order to reach the goal of a completed screenplay.  Students will be given a break between the second and third classes in order to develop their script, during which time the instructor will be available for consult through email.

The workshop runs: Saturday November 13, Thursday November 18, Thursday December 2 & Saturday December 11. Saturday Classes 10am -5pm, Thursday Classes 6pm-9pm.  CSIF is located on the Currie Barracks at Building J2, 2711, Battleford Ave, SW, Calgary AB.
